Weekend of July 11th UPDATE
by posted 07/05/2020

Parents - Quick update, FPN cancelled this Friday's one day event unfortunately. This weekend instead of playing another 4 games in Southington without any knockout round etc (per current covid guidelines), we are planning to get 4-6 teams to play Sat/Sun at Waveny. I am doing my best to get A/B teams down, we shall see. That said, plan on 4-6 games over the weekend, details to follow in the next couple of days.

USSSA Northeast Nationals are approaching (7/16-7/19), it will be a packed schedule with events to attend etc around the actual games from what I understand. Several of us are planning to stay at the Courtyard Marriot in Windsor.. there is a nice area outside (ie. a courtyard), which makes socially distanced post-game hanging out possible. If you're interested, book rooms: https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/bdlwd-courtyard-hartford-windsor/?scid=bb1a189a-fec3-4d19-a255-54ba596febe2&y_source=1_NjUwNDAwLTcxNS1sb2NhdGlvbi5nb29nbGVfd2Vic2l0ZV9vdmVycmlkZQ==

Reach out with any questions.

USSSA Southington Event - Weekend of 6/20
by posted 06/15/2020

Hi Parents - Quick update for this coming weekend: As explained, the first few events will be played a "round robin" events as the State has dictated for now. With that said, we have 2 games Saturday, 2 games Sunday, all against great teams/programs, all to be played at Panthorn Park in Southington, CT. Coach Rita needs all players to arrive 60minutes before the game start.. which means, Saturday morning will be a very early one, please prepare accordingly.

I will be sending more details around USSSA signoffs for each player to ensure our roster is finalized before the weekend, please keep an eye out for further communications from both myself and / or USSSA via their system.

Saturday:

Game 1 - 7:30am vs. Seymour Tradition Field 7

Game 2 - 9:45am vs. CT Seahawks Field 3

Sunday:

Game 3 - 12:00pm vs. Rawlings/Cheshire Wildcats Field 3

Game 4 - 1:45pm vs. Southington Lightning Field

Similar to Fastpitch Nation, there are a ton of rules due to Covid-19, most importantly.. only one guest per player, meaning one parent for now.

I've copied the details below:

Safe Return to Play Plan

Below is the reopening plan for playing softball at Panthorn Park amidst the current COVID-19 Pandemic.  These guidelines have been established at the direction of our Town Health Department and MUST be followed in order for this event to proceed.

Who can Attend; Spectator Guidelines:

  • Only uniformed players playing that day, 3 coaches and 1 parent/guardian spectator per player will be permitted in the park. Keeping human numbers low will be paramount. No other spectators will be allowed (siblings, grandparents, friends, etc.). Our plan is designed so that there will be no group of people larger than 2 coming to the park (player & parent).
  • Current state regulations call for masks or cloth face coverings in public when close contact is unavoidable. While the regulations are in place, we will require masks or cloth face coverings to access the bathrooms.  For added security we suggest people wear them in any outdoor areas they feel they cannot maintain social distance. All spectators will be required to maintain 6’ social distances.
  • Entry points will be limited and gate openings will be chained off to limit entrance to and exiting from the park.  (See attached map for Parking and Entry Points). These entrances will be managed by staff. These staffers will monitor that only appropriate people are entering the park while also providing information and safety instructions.
  • No spectators will be allowed behind the backstop.  Spectators will be instructed that they are to sit/stand along the outfield edge of the foul lines and along the outside of the outfield fence.  The bleachers will be off limits to spectators and used for player seating (as an extended dugout) with markings for player social distancingAll parents will spread out strictly adhering to social distancing from the outfield ends of the 1st and 3rd base dugouts and around the outfield. With this plan, the 1 parent/guardian per player will have over 650 linear feet to spread out one person deep.
  • All picnic tables will be stood on their sides, roped off and will not be used. Bleachers will not be available for spectator seating.  Spectators will need to bring their own personal chairs for seating.
  • No pop-up tents other than the ones teams use to extend the dugout space will be permitted.  Personal tents tend to encourage gathering too close together and adds too much time to pack up and exit the park. Individual covered chair umbrellas will be allowed.

Game Times and Traffic Flow

Teams will play two games back-to-back each day.  Game times will be 1hr 20 min no new inning, with a drop dead time at 1hr 40 min. There will be volunteers directing the flow of traffic as teams switch fields. Please follow these directions in order to avoid unnecessary congestion in between games.

Game times will be as follows:

  • 1st Set of Games:  7:30 am and 9:15 am
  • Park Cleared at 11:00 am and 2nd set of teams instructed to enter
  • 2nd Set of Games: 12:00 pm and 1:45 pm
  • Park Cleared at 3:30 pm and 3rd set of teams instructed to enter
  • 3rd Set of Games:  4:30 pm and 6:15 pm

NOTE:  Due to the odd number of teams in the 14u division, there will be one off-set game on the lower field.  Upon completion of this game, one team will move to the upper fields for their next game, while the other team is asked to remain on the lower field until their next game.  This team is welcome to remain on the lower field, practicing social distancing, or they can leave the park and come back.  They are asked to complete their warm-ups on the lower field and proceed to the upper field when instructed.

  • Once a team has completed playing their two games they will need to leave the park immediately. There will be no lingering to watch or scout other teams.  Additionally, there is to be no gathering in the parking lot.
  • There will be no warmups allowed while games are being played.  There is a one-hour break between game sets to allow for teams to warmup on their scheduled field.  Teams are to wait until permitted to enter to begin their warmups.
  • Pre-Game Warmups are to take place in the outfield and on the outer edge of the infield.  Please avoid the field crew as they groom and line the field for your game.
  • Teams showing up for the second or third set of games must remain in their vehicles until everyone from the previous set has left the park.  Our staff volunteers will instruct you when it is safe to enter the park.  Please review the enclosed map of the park in advance of arrival and bring it with you on game day.  This map will show you the designated parking areas as well as entry and exit points.

On-Field Modifications

  • The play adaptations are mainly in terms of social distancing.  We have tried to preserve game play as much as possible. These are the on-field protocols all will need to follow:
  • On the field and around the field, we will follow strict social distancing. Fastpitch softball is a non-contact sport and is ideally suited for such a thing since the players are so far apart for nearly the entire time.
  • Umpires will manage the game, the social distancing and safety rules on the field. However, we need the coaches to be an equally important part of the safety team.  Coaches are asked to manage their players to ensure proper social distancing.
  • Umpires will warn coaches if a team is not abiding by the social distance restrictions. Teams will have a maximum of 2 warnings. If a third infraction of social distance rules occurs, the game will end and be recorded as a forfeit.
  • The Event Director and Event Volunteers will manage spectators.  As with the in-game warnings, spectators will be given warnings if they are not following social distancing protocol.  If spectators refuse to follow these guidelines the game will be paused and the coach will be asked to manage the team’s spectators.  If this is unsuccessful the game will be stopped and both teams will be asked to leave the park.  Please understand, being the first event of the season, we will be under close observation, and failure to comply could result in the town canceling the entire event, as well as future events.  We do not want to see this happen, which is why everyone MUST FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES.
  • Pre-game warm-up will be allowed in the outfield and edges of the infield only. Since at any time the teams in the park will be the ones playing no warmups are needed in other areas.  Fields 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 will not be used.
  • At the conclusion of a team’s second game they are to immediately pack up their gear and exit the park. There are no post-game huddles allowed in the park. It’s important the teams exit quickly so the next block of teams can enter the park.
  • Teams as required to completely clean out the dugouts and leave nothing behind that others must touch to clean or discard.  Trash barrels will be positioned next to each dugout for this purpose.  Coaches are asked to police their own teams and ensure that all trash is discarded before leaving the field.
  • The homeplate umpire will be in a new position to call balls and strikes. We are experimenting on the field now to determine the best view of the ball and plate while maintaining social distance. Umpires will not call balls and strikes from behind the pitcher due to safety reasons.
  • There will be no shaking of hands, high fives, fist bumps or even elbow bumps. At the game’s conclusion teams will just exit the field.
  • There will be no players at the homeplate meeting prior to the game and social distance will be maintained by the two managers and umpire.
  • Mound visits will be limited to the pitcher, catcher and manager at a proper social distances.
  • No team huddles, pre or post game meetings will be permitted.
  • No seeds or any food that encourages spitting will be permitted.
  • No sharing of equipment will be permitted.
  • New balls in fresh packaging are used at the start of each game. Used game balls will be sanitized after each game.

Rules and Game Play Changes

  • Please remember, this is not a tournament, but an opportunity for teams to get out and experience game play for the first time in several months.  The rules changes listed below are designed to get the most out of the game for all players.
  • All games will use free substitution as well as free courtesy runners for the catcher and pitcher. (NOTE:  if batting the entire lineup, the last batted out will run for the pitcher or catcher.  Otherwise, teams are to use a bench player who is not currently in the game).
  • Lineup cards will be optional and only exchanged between scorekeepers. If one team does not wish to exchange physical lineup cards that will be permitted. If you can exchange lineups via text that will be ideal. No physical lineup cards will be given to the umpire.
  • We ask teams use the honor system and any lineup card disputes will need to be resolved between scorekeepers.
  • There will be no mercy rules in effect.  Games will be played until time expires or 7 innings have been completed, whichever comes first.
  • Should a team bat through their complete lineup in a single inning, the half inning will be over and the team up to bat will take the field.
  • Coaches are asked to manage the game appropriately and not run up the score if the matchup is unbalanced.

Dugouts and benches

  • Only Field 7 has traditional dugouts.  These dugouts will be locked shut due to the fact that they are enclosed on three sides and do not allow for proper ventilation.  There will be a designated area outside of the dugouts for players to sit while practicing social distancing. The remaining fields have two six-foot aluminum benches on either side, enough room for 3 players (one at the end of each bench and one in the middle).  We will move the bleachers slightly closer to these benches for the remaining players to sit on.  There will be tape markings of an X for each player to sit.  Signage will be posted stating very clearly that the bleachers are not for spectators, and that these are for players only.
  • When teams are up to bat, and all of their players are on the bench, teams must delegate a coach to monitor the players on the bench/bleachers for social distancing.

Concessions and Restrooms

  • Given the risks involved, we have made the decision to not open our concession stand.  Teams are expected to bring their own coolers with water and other sports drinks to keep their players hydrated.
  • We have restrooms behind Field 7, between Fields 1 and 3 and next to the playground for the Lower Field.  These restrooms will be monitored and sanitized by volunteers wearing protective masks and gloves regularly.  Anyone using the restrooms is expected to wear a face mask.

Park Rules

  • As always, the following park rules are in effect:  NO ALCOHOL, NO SMOKING, NO GRILLS AND NO DOGS/PETS.  We ask that you please adhere to these rules.

CT Rams - Games / Practice Update - READ FULL EMAIL
by posted 06/08/2020

Parents - I hope everyone is well. I have some good news to share! Today we were given the green light to use the town Softball fields as of Wednesday June 17th.

- There will be no fan bleachers, bring your own chairs
- Maintain social distance rules while spectating
- There will be no team bleachers, have your daughter bring a collapsible chair
- Have your daughter bring a mask. It will not be required while playing, but there could be other situations where it would be needed. I am awaiting additional clarity on this.
- There will be hand sanitizer provided, please remind your daughter to use it.
- There will be a home team defensive ball and an away team defensive ball to limit the amount of hands touching the ball

We are scheduled to play a doubleheader on June 17th at 5pm vs. the Empire State Huskies on Water Tower field. We will be the first team to play under the new lights!

We are exploring options for the weekend of June 20th as we currently have a tournament but have not heard back from the organizers. As such, we may end up scheduling a bunch of local games that weekend in its place if we don’t hear something soon. What I want to avoid is the tournament being cancelled and we don’t have anyone to play that weekend. Stay-tuned for updates on the weekend of 6/20.

Rita is going to hold an optional hitting session Thursday at the batting cage (Water Tower) from 5-6pm, please rsvp using the NCSB system.

Lastly, we will be holding a mandatory parent meeting following practice this Saturday morning at 9:30. Please be sure at least one parent from each family attends.

Let me know if there are any questions.

Best,

Nick & The CT Rams Coaches

CT Rams Scheduling Update
by posted 06/04/2020

CT Rams Parents – I hope this note finds everyone well and safe. We’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel... and with that, we wanted to provide an update on where things are heading for the Summer schedule.

As you know, until we are given the green light to use the fields, we will continue our split team, small group in-person work, which we felt went pretty well last weekend. As some restrictions begin to ease, we need to make sure the girls are very aware that things are not going to be like a regular Softball environment, both from the structure of our events, to how we interact with each other in person.

At the bottom of this email, I’ve included a glimpse of the precautions being put into place at Fastpitch Nation, once I have more information on the other facilities we will be visiting, I will pass that along as well.

These girls have put in a ton of effort from the fall, through winter and now into the Spring.. its going to be great to see them finally out on the field.

We will be ordering masks for the girls to wear when in public areas at tournaments, they will be ready before the 20th.

This is our tournament schedule as of now, as mentioned in pervious communications, with the condensed season, they will be kept very busy up until early August, have a couple weeks off and then close the season the final two weeks of August with 2 tournaments. We went with the final 2 weeks of August as the majority had trips or events planned during the first of second week of August, thus we should be good to field a team for the final two weeks. If there are any issues, please let us know asap.

There will be 3 practices per week (T/W/Th), with friendlies (local games) mixed in.. things are still getting finalized, and I will keep things updated as much as I can as the information flows in.

All the best,

Nick & CT Rams Coaches Rita and Hannah

Restrictions on Teams and Spectators

What will the restrictions be on teams and spectators?

WE CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH YOUR COMPLETE COOPERATION WILL BE REQUIRED TO NOT ONLY GET BACK ON THE FIELD BUT TO REMAIN THERE FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON. This season will be like no other and we all must remember what it has taken to get back playing again. All of our actions will dictate how successful we all are playing softball once again. Everyone must understand we will have a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY. It has taken an incredible effort to get back in business and we will not allow anyone in the park to jeopardize the season to end prematurely.

Below is our “Safe Return to Play” plan.

  1. Only uniformed players playing that day, 3 coaches and 1 parent/guardian spectator per player will be permitted in the park. Keeping human numbers low will be paramount. No other spectators will be allowed (siblings, grandparents, friends, etc.). Our plan guarantees there will be no group of people larger than 3 comes to the park (player, 1 spectator parent, 1 coach parent but most groups will be 2, player and 1 parent).
  2. Current state regulations call for masks or cloth face coverings in public when close contact is unavoidable. While the regulations are in place, we will require masks or cloth face coverings to enter the building to access the bathrooms and retail spaces. Masks are also required to access the food trucks. For added security we suggest people where them in any outdoor areas they feel they cannot maintain social distance. All spectators will be required to maintain 6’ social distances.
  3. Temporary fencing has been installed so there are now only two points of entrance/exit to the park. These entrances (one at each parking lot) will be managed by staff. These staffers will monitor that only appropriate people are entering the park plus provide information and safety instructions.
  4. No spectators will be allowed behind the backstops from the outfield end of the 1st base dugout to outfield end of the 3rd base dugout. All parents will spread out strictly adhering to social distancing from the outfield ends of the 1st and 3rd base dugouts and around the outfield. The backstop areas tend to be the place folks congregate and in depths more than one person deep creating a choke point in a complex with multiple backstops facing each other. This will not be allowed. With this plan the 1 parent/guardian per player will have over 650 linear of fence (5,000 sf) line to spread out one person deep.
  5. All picnic tables and bleachers will be stacked in the storage area and will not be used. Spectators will need to bring their own personal chairs for seating.
  6. No pop-up tents other than the ones teams use to extend the dugout space will be permitted as personal tents will encourage gathering too close together and adds too much time to pack up and exit the park. Individual covered chair umbrellas will be allowed.
  7. Once a team has completed play, they will need to leave the park immediately. There will be no lingering to watch or scout other teams.
  8. Each field area (benches, dugouts, gates, etc.) will be disinfected daily.
  9. Between games employees who will be maintaining the fields, will sanitize the team bench as well as the scorers table.
  10. Signage will be placed at all entrances and other locations around the park regarding social distancing and hygiene practices.
  11. We have painted dividing lines, arrows and other things painted on the walk areas. This will help people understand where to go and to maintain social distancing.
  12. For the first few tournaments , Field 3, which is closest to the building entrance and food trucks will be closed. This is the point where there would be the highest congregation of people and we want time to experiment how to manage that area most safely once games resume on that field in July.

How long will these restrictions last?

  • It’s unknown for how long we will need to enforce these highly restrictive measures.
  • Once games begin and we understand any issues we find during actual play, we can begin to evaluate any amendments.
  • Our hope to be able to allow 2 spectators per player beginning with the USSSA Nationals.
  • However, we cannot predict how the government will continue to restrict us. It’s unrealistic and perhaps also unwise to think in a matter of weeks we can go from maximum restrictions to pre-pandemic behavior.

How will the site restrictions be enforced and what happens if people do not comply?

  • For everyone’s safety all must understand we will have a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY.
  • Coaches must ensure their team adhere to the one parent per player rule and on-field social distance rules. We prefer to not have to resort to a wristband system for entering the park so please monitor and take responsibility for your team and spectators.
  • A government required Director of Safety and Adherence will be on hand to monitor all fields to maintain and enforce the rules. Each field crew will also be part of the enforcement effort. Typically a 2-person crew is assigned to 2 fields for the day. They will not only groom fields but will be part of the crowd management team.
  • Umpires, the UIC and the Director of Safety will manage both the game and the social distance and safety rules on the field. However, we need the coaches to be an equally important part of the safety team.
  • Umpires will warn coaches if a team is not abiding by the social distance restrictions. Teams will have a maximum of 2 warnings. If a third infraction of social distance rules occurs, the game will end and be recorded as a forfeit.
  • Spectators are required to obey all commands from tournament staff regarding social distance and park policies. Spectators who refuse to obey commands from staff will be ejected from the park. If they refuse ejection, the police will be called.
  • If anyone, players or spectators are feeling sick, have a cold, coughing etc., STAY HOME!

Bathrooms, On-site Medical, Food, Merchandise and Livestreaming

Will the bathrooms be open and will food be available? Can we bring our own food and drinks?

  • Our professional food service professionals (Mozicatto Catering and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream) will use their two Food Trucks. As always their trucks will be sanitized each day. The area by the food trucks will be marked off with 6’ distance markers to stand in line at the truck.
  • Individual families may bring food or drink for themselves, but no tailgating, or team meals will be permitted.
  • No communal water coolers will be permitted.
  • No seeds or any food that encourages spitting will be permitted.
  • Our bathrooms will be open. Masks or cloth face covering are required to enter the bathrooms. As we always do, our restrooms will be maintained for cleanliness, monitored constantly and disinfected daily.
  • There are 5 hand washing stations (3 women and 2 men) and we are adding hand sanitizer stations as well

Will the retail space be open to purchase tournament shirts and other items?

  • Yes, it will be open. Masks or cloth face covering are required to enter the retail space.
  • We have had to reduce the number offerings to have less racks to make room for social distance as per guidelines. But we will still have many offerings.
  • Unfortunately it's proven not feasible to create and rollout an online store this season.

Will medical personnel be on site?

  • As always, Hartford HealthCare will have certified athletic training medical staff on site at every game. Aside from their role to provide athletic training, concussion assessment and minor first aid, they will also be prepared to do temperature checks for anyone who wishes one. We are working with them to determine what more they can offer during games.

Will the games be livestreamed?

  • Yes, all games will be livestreamed. As good as our system was last season our livestream system and wifi network was undergoing a major system upgrade when the pandemic hit. We have now resumed that upgrade and it will be ready for June 20.
  • We are testing a new system that will take the output of our scoreboards and overlays the data onto the video stream with MLB style graphics.
  • We will be soon testing and rolling out play-by-play broadcasting on specific games.
  • The new livestreaming system requires an account and subscription to watch games.
  • Go here to access the livestream system.

Updated Tournament Formats

What is the new format of the tournaments and how will you manage the teams attending?

  • The largest challenge we had to gain approval of our plan to play was the volume of teams coming to the park. We were tasked with creating a way to dramatically reduce the number of teams in the park, reduce the entrances to only 2 and have little to no overlapping games or teams waiting to play which would make management of social distance polices much more difficult.
  • To manage this we developed a new tournament format we dubbed “Micro-Events”. This round-robin format allows us to insure that only 1/3 of the teams entered into any event will be in the park at one time. To achieve this there will be no elimination component in any tournament this season other than a modified one in the USSSA Nationals. It will be more similar to a showcase format in which games are played, scores are kept but there will be no elimination play and no overall winner declared. In these unprecedented times winning a tournament seems to be of little consequence. Getting out and competing and enjoying softball is everything.
  • In a 4-game-guarantee micro-event format each team will still play 4 games (two each day). All the teams in the event are broken into 3 time blocks each day. For example in a two-day event on day one, 1/3 of the teams will play the morning time block, play 2 games, pack up and leave. Then the next 1/3 of teams will play the midday time block, play 2 games, pack up and leave. Then they last 1/3 of the teams will play the afternoon time block, play 2 games, pack up and leave.
  • In a three-day 6-game-guarantee micro-event format each team will still play 6 games (two each day).
  • With this format, we will also implement a complimentary parking strategy with alternating blocks using the lower and upper parking lots.
  • If our events have the maximum number of teams entered that the park could accommodate, our new micro-event format guarantees our actual max capacity at any one time never will exceed 33%. Moreover, even if we were at the max 33% capacity, parking would take approximately 300 of the more than 1,000 spaces available or 30%.
  • This format accomplishes two goals: 1) It’s the safest way we can manage the teams in the park. 2) The format opens up more opportunities for teams to play which is important since so many teams have lost many events around the region with some places losing their entire season. Many teams have told us they feel Fastpitch Nation Park may be the only place they can play all season.

When can I arrive for my games and where do I park, enter and exit?

  • Each parking lot will have a single entrance/exit to the fields. Teams within a block will enter and exit through the same gate regardless of the location of the field you are assigned. The alternate entrance/exit will be closed when one is open. This way no block will overlap parking lots or entrances and exits.
  • Block 1 teams being first in the morning can arrive when they want. However, Block 2 and Block 3 teams can begin entering the park 60 minutes prior to their assigned game time. In the June 20 event these will be the game times. Based on results we will determine for the following events if we need to adjust to more or less time between blocks.
    • Block 1 uses the lower parking lot and enters the park whenever and plays at 7:45am and 9:15am.
    • Block 2 uses the upper parking lot and enters the park at 11am and plays at 12:00pm and 1:30am.
    • Block 3 uses the lower parking lot and enters the park at 3:15pm and plays at 4:15pm and 5:45pm.

How long will this these restrictions and the micro-event format last?

  • The “micro-event”  format will be in place for the balance of the season (end of August). As we get deeper into the summer, approaching the Fall, we will review based on conditions and governmental regulations. Our hope is to return to a traditional play for the Fall. However, we cannot predict how the government will continue to restrict us. It’s unrealistic and perhaps also unwise to think in a matter of weeks we can go from maximum restrictions to pre-pandemic behavior.

Expanded Tournaments, Reschedules and New Weekday Tournaments

Will there be new events to enter? Will current events be expanded?

  • Every current event has been expanded to the maximum we can fit in the park under the severe restrictions.
  • We have already added weekend events for every week in August.
  • The 5/23 and 6/13 USA Elite Select 7 Inning Series Events have been rescheduled to July 28-29 and is now a 4GG, 2-day event. See pricing below.
  • The 6/26-28, FPN Cup 5-game guarantee event has been updated to 6-game guarantee. See pricing below.
  • The July 3-5, 7-game guarantee event has been updated to 6-game guarantee. See pricing below.
  • We have added 1-Day weekday events every week through the end of July.
    • June 26, Summer Madness I (1-Day Game Play)
    • July 2, Summer Madness II (1-Day Game Play)
    • July 10, Summer Madness III (1-Day Game Play)
    • July 14, Summer Madness IV (1-Day Game Play)
    • July 21, Summer Madness V (1-Day Game Play)
  • All events are posted and ready to enter on USSSA.com

CT Rams Schedule Update - IMPORTANT

Hi Parents – I hope this note finds you all well. As you may have heard, it looks like we should be good to start playing in tournaments starting June 20th. We currently have a tournament scheduled that weekend in Cheshire and are planning to play in it.

We will send along details on the precautions being put in place by both USA Softball and USSSA in the coming weeks.

As mentioned, a couple weeks back when I sent my last note, the season has been extended through the end of August, and based on the feedback I’ve received, we will take the first 2 weekends of August off from tournaments and compete the following 2 weekends to close out August. We are still working through the details, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Our girls have been working hard through a very unique situation, we can’t wait to see them get out on the field and play together.

We will reach out in advance with any details around possible partial team practices etc, as of now we are limited to what each town and the state is allowing.

There will be many more details to come… for now, at least it seems we will be able to salvage a decent amount of the season and continue where we left off.

If you are not comfortable with your daughter playing on June 20th, please let us know ASAP.

Best,

Nick and the CT Rams Coaches

CT Rams - Virtual Workouts - UPDATE
by posted 04/01/2020

Hi all – I hope you’re all doing well and as good as can be during these very interesting and unforgettable times.

I wanted to give an overall update as to where we stand and what we will be doing over the next few weeks ahead. As we know, we are frozen until at least April 30th… realistically at least some time past that. We are holding out hopes that we can get back out there soon enough to get back on track, but clearly that is TBD.

Hopefully the girls have enjoyed the Zoom Conditioning classes, both from an exercise standpoint and also (maybe more importantly) seeing their teammates/friends regularly. I personally feel the classes have been great for the team overall.

Going forward Rita is rolling out at home practice plans, along with the conditioning and group + individual instruction.

Here is the virtual plan (which begins next week) for the CT Rams until we get out of this nightmare:

    •    Conditioning 2X/ week Monday and Wednesday at 4pm via Zoom

    •    Weekly player/coach individual player check in calls via phone or zoom (Coach Rita will let the girls
           know directly)

    •    30 min individual instruction zoom calls - ~4 player per week and rotate thru

    •    Once a week 40-45 min zoom groups – We will divide girls into Catchers/Outfield/Infield (generally
speaking, as we are aware many girls play several positions) = 3 Zoom Instruction/ week

    •    Strongly encourage girls to message me with any questions etc... Coach Rita will provide feedback

Details for the schedule will be shared later this week.

Coach Rita would like the girls to have her mobile phone number and is asking permission for her to reach out to each player directly as needed on their personal mobile devices. Please reply back to this email with your daughter’s mobile number, we assure you it will not be shared outside of Coach Rita.

Coach Rita’s mobile number: (203) 249-6588

If you do not want to share the number, please let me know and we will need to work another option out for those players.

Lastly, as a reminder Coach Rita is holding a player + family conditioning this Friday (April 3). Please have at least one (or more) family member join your daughter during Friday’s conditioning.

Stay safe and reach out with anything.

All the very best,

Nick & CT Rams Coaches

CT Rams - ADK Tournament Update - Covid-19
by posted 03/10/2020

Hi Parents - We wanted to share some information which was sent to us from the Adirondack Dome related to this weekend's tournament and the Covid-19 virus:

I want to take a minute to update you about the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus), and its potential impact on activities at the Adirondack Sports Complex.

We have been, and will continue to be, in contact with the Warren County Health Department and the NYS Department of Health regarding the Coronavirus.

At the present time, we will be continuing with all programs, classes, leagues, and rentals as scheduled. We will also be reviewing all of our programs and schedules on a daily basis to determine whether any cancellations or changes need to be made. Should any scheduling changes occur, they will be communicated directly to all those involved.

As we certainly want all players, coaches, parents and family members to be safe and healthy, we encourage everyone to be vigilant. Anyone who feels at all sick is asked to please stay home.

On a daily basis, we will be disinfecting and sanitizing contact surfaces throughout the facility.  This will include all door handles, sinks and bathroom facilities, countertops, tables, keyboards, bleachers, team benches, and equipment, etc.

We have also installed additional alcohol-based hand sanitizer dispensers so that customers have plenty of access.

Please read and follow the guidance issued by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, and the New York State Department of Health, regarding preventive measures to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including the use of handwashing and hand sanitizers.

Also as a preventative measure, it is highly recommended that all teams and players suspend handshakes, high fives, and fist-bumps for the time being.

The following is a link to a number of additional information resources that the Saratoga County Department of Public Health Services has complied with regards to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

CT Rams Update - March 5, 2020
by posted 03/05/2020

Hi Parents - A several important updates for you:

- Pitchers / Catchers will no longer be held on Mondays. Going forward we will have Pitchers/Catchers show up to Tuesday practices 30minutes ahead of the regular practice time (which will be outside, unless its < 40 or raining).

- No conditioning on Tuesday March 17th, we will still have practice that evening on the Turf

- We will not have a Tournament over Memorial Day weekend as well as the week around the 4th. This will give the girls and families some quality time together.

- Reminder for the bonding event at the Kittredges this coming Saturday, wear PJs to hang and watch "A League of Their Own"

- We are waiting on final game times for next weekend's ADK tournament. Please plan on leaving immediately after school is let out regardless, if not a bit soon. Stay tuned for more info.

- Scrimmage in Seymour this Sunday, same details as last time, try to arrive 45min early (4:15), hopefully we can get in early this time! Make sure the girls wear their red practice jerseys

- Helmets, Equipment bags and Jackets should ready right before our tournament.

- Stay tuned for a note from our coach regarding fundrasing details.

We are doing all we can to keep everyone in the know as early as possible. Sometimes things arent clear, but we are trying our best! It takes a village.

Looking forward to a great season, with a great team and great families!

Reach out with any questions.

Best,

Nick & CT Rams Coaches

CT Rams UPDATE - Please Read/Review
by posted 02/23/2020

Greetings CT Rams Parents! I hope everyone has enjoyed their winter break. As we approach the official start to our full season over the next few weeks, things will be ratcheting up.

Starting this week, we are going to move to full team practices and combined team conditioning. Starting next week, the Thursday conditioning will move to Wednesdays until we wrap up a few weeks later and as a reminder, we’ve also got one remaining scrimmage at TSA in Seymour on March 8th.

We have our Adirondack Dome Tournament starting March 13th in Lake George, and we’ll need to get prepared for that in the 3 remaining weeks leading up to it. While we’d much prefer full participation, we are aware winter sports are still on-going, let us know if your daughter can not attend something due to a conflict.

I plan to unleash a barrage of updates for our next 2 months of schedule to our team calendar tonight, please make sure you review and understand the schedule ahead. As of now we have one date at BVSA (this Tuesday) and from then on out, we should be at the Water Tower Turf 3 field (New Canaan High School, but can park at Waveny Water Tower and walk over), NCHS Gym (for pitching/catching) and soon enough the outdoor fields at Waveny!

I’ve listed several important updates below:

Practices: As mentioned above, we will move to team practices starting this week. After this week we are moving outside and it may be chilly at times, so ensure the girls dress appropriately when outside during the late-winter / early spring events.

Uniforms: Orders should be in soon. The girls still need to get fitted for helmets (or send a preferred sized), once the samples are in-stock (hopefully this week), I will reach back out. The uniforms include the following:

  • Home Jersey
  • Away Jersey
  • Pants
  • Socks
  • Belt
  • Headband
  • CT Rams Equipment Bag

Extra uniform parts are available for ordering, stay tuned for details on that process.

While not at all mandatory, our preference would be for the girls to have black/white cleats.

Tournaments: This is where the saying it takes a tribe is the reality. The coaches and manager (me) will be very busy during these events.. we will be relying on everyone to get involved leading up to and during our events. We’ll be looking for help for each tournament. Help includes: finding restaurant for group dinners, planning refreshments/snacks, tents/coolers (as needed) etc.

So far, Jess Connolly is handing planning a team dinner on Saturday night during our ADK Dome event. It would be great if another parent can jump in to help with anything else needed.

ADK Dome Tournament – While we am still waiting for the final schedule, there is a near certain chance we will be expected to play in a game on Friday night. It’s a lengthy drive to Lake George which means the girls will either have to leave school a slight bit early or leave directly when they get out. I was told by the organizer that other teams from our area have agreed to play in 2 games Friday night, which I pushed back on to avoid missing school.. hopefully we are only given 1 game. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.

I will be adding our busy tournament schedule to our calendar tonight as well. Please note, weekends where there are not tournaments, we will be working to schedule “friendlies” against other teams.

We will be off from June 29 through July 5th for a bit of a summer break.

Fundraising: There will be fundraising opportunities and events coming your way soon. We are working on a dinner/restaurant event for late March, plant sales and as always looking for all of you to purchase CT Rams Gear as we get a share of the proceeds. Leah will be in touch regarding the various items, some of which are on the Union12 site currently, others are still in the works. If there is something specific, you’re hoping to see us offer, please reach out.

As a reminder, we are a tournament team, and will face serious competition.. do not get discouraged quickly, this will be a journey for our girls. We’ve worked hard to get them prepared throughout the fall and winter, and Rita has a great plan to continue getting them up to speed. We are looking forward to seeing our new assistant coach in action!

As a reminder we also have a new player who will be joining the team starting this week. Please talk to your girls about giving Hayley a warm welcome, making her feel at home right out of the gate!

Sponsorships: We would also love to see the team secure additional sponsors. Please ask around and see if you know anyone who might be interested in sponsoring our team. Costs are very high on a tournament team, and we are offering each family a great value at the price we’ve charged each player.. and as such need to continue to work to build our account to cover additional expenses throughout the season. Sponsors will have their company advertised on our team banner to be hung at every game and event we participate in as well as on our website(s).  Please reach out if you have a sponsor lined up or have questions.

Team Bonding: We were thinking that the team could have a movie night, Rita would love to see the girls watch “A League of Their Own” together. We can possibly use Rita’s studio although we’d prefer to have the team go to someone’s house if possible. If anyone is willing to host the team for a bonding night, it would be greatly appreciated. Please reach out if you’re interested.

We’re also looking for help planning additional bonding activities, please reach out if you’re willing to help.

Player Philosophy: We expect the girls to come to the field/gym/etc ready to work, ready to give their all and ready to continue their development as a team player. We need the girls to be focused, have fun off the field, but be serious on the field. Distractions will hurt our team and we ask that you reinforce this with your player at home. Let’s have fun, work hard, and play hard, no matter what!

Lastly, I’ve updated the shared team contact information shared workbook which is located here. Please use this for team communications, reaching out etc. Please try to use it for team comms.

Reach out with any questions.

All the best,

Nick and the CT Rams Coaches

CT Rams: Conditioning
by posted 01/08/2020

Hi all - Coach Rita will be out of town next Thursday through the following week. As such, we are moving next Thursday's conditioning class to a combined (both groups) class on Wednesday (1/15) from 5:45-6:30pm. There will be no conditioning class Tuesday 1/21 and Thursday 1/23, all other Softball related activities are on as planned.

We are in the process of creating a room block for our Adirondack Dome Tournament. In order for Marc to hold the right amount of rooms for us, can you please reply back today and let me know if you need 0,1 or 2 rooms for 2 nights (3/13-3/15). If you are considering sending your daughter up with another family but are not certain, it would make sense to hold a room until you are certain of your plans as from what we are told, the rooms can be cancelled very close to the actual event date.

We'd also like to place the order for the fitted hats, please let me know today if you are interested in one (or more).

Lastly, please make sure your daughter works in the off time, keeping the blast sensor on her bat, charged and recording at all times.

Best,

Nick / CT Rams Coaches

CT Rams Update - Jan 2 2020
by posted 01/02/2020

Hi All – Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great holiday season and is ready to be slingshot right back into the madness...  😊

A few things we wanted to touch upon:

  • Strength and Conditioning starts back up tonight, please see the Carpooling schedule here.

  • Sunday Pitching/Catching: NC Travel Pitching/Catching clinics start this Sunday evening. This is optional for our pitchers as most have their own instructors, but strongly encouraged for our catchers to attend as much as possible. The slot for NC Travel and CT Rams 12U is from 7:15-8:15.

  • Monday Pitching/Catching Space: As a reminder, we have the NCHS Aux Gym for pitching and catching (on your own) on Monday evenings. The details are loaded onto our calendars.

  • Tuesday Hitting Clinics w/ Pam & Rita: Our optional (but encouraged) hitting clinics will resume next Tuesday 1/7). Please reply back to me letting me know if your daughter would prefer the 7-8p or 8-9p timeslot for hitting.

  • ADK Dome: We are planning to attend an indoor tournament outside of Lake George from March 13-15. Details on hotel accommodations will be send in the coming weeks. If you are unable to bring your daughter, please reach out to the other team parents to align someone to bring your daughter. Team contact details can be found here.

  • Hitting: As a reminder, the coaches are expecting all of the players to hit during the offseason, whether they’re hitting alone at home, or with an instructor... please try to find some time to get regular hitting in… and make sure your Blast sensor is loaded and charged as the swings are being monitored to help the coaches know what to focus on for each player as we head into our season.

  • Filling in the Blanks team charity event is January 12th. Please make sure you’ve signed up. I believe we are trying to workout a pizza dinner with the team afterwards. We will be in touch on that.

  • Sports SignUp Play app: I highly recommend everyone download and log into the Sports Signup Play app. Login using your NC Softball website login. If you’ve logged in previously, you may need to manually log out and back in to see the team show up. You can also download and link our team calendar to your phone’s Calendar app through the Sports Signup Play app. Reach out to me directly with questions please. We need all of you to understand and be aware of the schedule, this app certainly helps make things a bit easier.

  • CT Rams Fitted Hats – We are looking to place an order for CT Rams hats. In order to place the order we need to sell more of them. This item has a higher fundraising return for the team as well, as such if you’re interested in would be appreciated if you could let me know and also let me know if you are a S/M or L/XL in hat size. They are flex fit, very well made hats. If you’re interested in seeing them, check out this link. Also as a reminder, there are a ton of great spirit wear items on the site, if there is something you're looking for but can't find, please let us know.

Reach out with any questions.

CT Rams Update Holiday Season 2019
by posted 12/23/2019

Hi All - Just a reminder for the next week and a half schedule (full details at the bottom of this email), please note, there will be no pitching space next Monday 12/30 due to mantanance coverage (they would charge us double time). There is pitching space tonight, it seems there may not be a huge turn out due to the proximity to Christmas, but the space is reserved nonetheless. I did verify that they would be there to open the gym.. but as we know, that is not always enough.. hopefully it's all good tonight.

Sunday Catching Clinic: Starting Jan 5th, all catchers are encouraged to attend the weekly catching clinics which will be held on Sunday nights from 7:30pm - 8:30pm.

Pitching space will also be available during that same time and has been added to our schedule.

Filling in the Blanks: Please make sure to sign your player up for our Filling in the Blanks Food Packing Charity Event on January 12th from 1 - 2:30pm. Please sign up here.

If you have any questions regarding the event, please reach out the Jenn Fittipaldi who is organizing the event for our team (Thanks Jen!!!), her email is: jennfitty911@yahoo.com

Team Contacts: I've created a shared Google Worksheet for our team contacts. This info can be used for everyone to reach out to other parents for planning help, contact purposes etc. As we head into the new year there will be more events coming up, and other reasons for parents to reach out and I dont want to be a choke point if I can avoid it.. so I'd like to enable (and welcome) each of you to reach out as needed.

You can find the contact page here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VituMELOfM29uiYRpOxs3bzF1z0qlAnRv92Co_54lQQ/edit?usp=sharing

Please review the info and update / add as needed.

We are in the process of planning a fundrasier for the CT Rams. As of early days, we are looking at a family dinner to be served by the team along with silent auction. We are aiming for March, but will let you know once we are further along in our planning process. We're going to need all families to help. Stay tuned..

Happy Holidays to all!

UPDATE FOR TONIGHT AND END 2019
by posted 12/17/2019

Hi all - As of now everything is as scheduled for this afternoon's conditioning + christmas party + toy donation, followed by optional hitting at BVSA from 8-9pm. I may have not been clear in my original email about the details for hitting tonight.. I meant to say we were extending it to accomidate the 7th Graders Chorus concert, not moving the start time. With that said, the concert has been moved, we are good for hitting from 8-9pm.

I am doing my best to keep it all straight and will do what I can to make it as easy as possible on everyone.. but that doesn't always work out as planned!

Summary:

TONIGHT 12/17
Conditioning - Dress festive, bring an unwrapped gift. Drop-off at Acme at 3:10pm, pickup at Acme @ 4:45pm.
Optional Hitting - 8-9pm @ BVSA

THURSDAY 12/19
Conditioning - Back to regular 2 group schedule (see Carpooling workbook here)

MONDAY 12/23
Optional Pitching / Catching space @ NCHS Aux Gym from 7:30-8:30pm

NO CONDITIONING THE WEEK OF 12/23

MONDAY 12/30
Optional Pitching / Catching space @ NCHS Aux Gym from 7:30-8:30pm

TUESDAY 12/31
NO CONDITIONING ON 12/31

THURSDAY 1/2
Conditioning - Regular 2 group schedule (see Carpooling workbook here)

This week UPDATE
by posted 12/15/2019

Hi Parents – For this Tuesday’s conditioning class, Coach Rita would like all of the girls to attend the 3:45pm session together. Rita has a 30-minute workout session planned followed by a few Christmas activities. Coach is also asking that each girl brings an unwrapped gift (for donation) and for them to dress in something festive.

For those of you in group B, please make sure you can still car pool, just a bit earlier.

I hope to get our schedule as it stands on the calendar this weekend... but as a reminder, pitching/catching (optional) Monday 7:30-830pm @ NCHS Aux Gym, conditioning Tuesday, hitting Tuesday night @ BVSA (some of the girls have a concert at Saxe, as such, Pam is going to stay a bit late for those of you who still are going to head to BVSA after the show... figure 8:30-9:15pm. If you can’t make it, not a problem... just let me know so the coaches can plan accordingly.

Also:

  • After this week, hitting will pause until January 7th
  • No conditioning classes on 12/24, 12/26 and 12/31

If you have not signed and returned your player/parent contract, please do so ASAP.

Don’t forget to check out our Spirit Wear Store here!

Last but not least, please let us know if you have any sponsors in min.d.. we need your help!

Have a great weekend!

Early December Update - Winter schedule / Prelim Tournaments
by posted 12/02/2019

Hi Parents  - I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! We wanted to touch base on a few important housekeeping items..

Winter Scheduling:

We’ve been hard at work designing a practice, training and tournament schedule for the 2020 CT Rams. Below is a practice / training schedule for the Winter months.. please note, Strength and Conditioning kicks off this week, hitting next week and we will have open gym space for our pitchers (and catchers) to use starting the week of the 16th. The pitching space is available for about an hour, you can bring an instructor, or just come throw on your own or with a parent.. the bottom line is it’s warm, indoor space close to home for our girls to pitch!

We are aware other sports could get in the way during the Winter months, although we’d like your daughter to make as many events as possible.

Schedule is included at the end of this email.. don't be scared, it's a bit long and details.. hence the massive effort which is aimed to get it as right and put our girls in the best position to learn, develop and improve as players.

Tournaments:

Below is our preliminary tournament schedule. Please keep in mind, it’s still early days and things could move. We wanted to get this in front of you as early as possible as we know some weekends will require ride/hotel sharing etc:

Winter Player Development:

Please be sure to keep your girls working hard this off-season. Coach Rita is monitoring progress via Blast reporting, so please make sure your girls are taking swings either at home on their own, with an instructor or with another coach. Our tournament schedule is going to be a tough one in terms of competition in 2020 and the girls on the field will be the ones who earn their playing time. As your daughters take more swings, thus increasing the sample size, the player reports and targeted improvement drills will be shared with you.. but in order to make the drill suggestions the most meaningful, we need data!

Various Updates and Important Info
by posted 11/19/2019

Hello CT Rams Parents – I hope all is well. Our girls had a great team meeting with Coaches Rita and Kara last week. The coaches are excited to see the progress the girls make throughout the Winter training, hitting and other activities... I think the words they used were: “we are really looking forward to the girls crushing their goals this winter”!

A few housekeeping items as you’ve not heard from me in over a whole, long week!

CT Rams Spirit Wear Store is online!

Our CT Rams Spirit Wear Store is Live and Online! You can access the store by following this link or by navigating to our website: www.CTRamsSoftball.com and clikc on the Spirit Wear Store link in the middle of the page. 15% of all sales go back to our team in order to help additional expenses throughout the season, every little bit helps! The fitted team hats are a special fundraiser item, with 40% going towards our team (they are also designed very well and look amazing!). A special thanks to Leah Kittredge for working to get this up and running!

Any questions regarding the items on the site, or anything related to our spirit wear should be directed to Leah Kittredge:

Food Drive

The New Covenant Center (NCC) reported to us that last weekend’s food and donation drive at Walter Stewart’s Market was the largest amount of cash donations raised in a single food drive weekend.  Sunday's donations came in at $660. Combined with Saturday's amount, we contributed over $1,300 to the NCC.  In addition, a van overfilled with food donations in much need was sincerely appreciated by the food pantry staff!

We also heard from the Walter Stewart's staff that they were impressed and pleased with the girls outgoing and polite behavior and said they welcome us back to do this again anytime.

Thanks again to all the players and parent volunteers for helping make this event such a great success and thanks to Jeff Fortmann for organizing the event.

CT Rams Website Launch

The CT Rams have a new home! Karen and Jim Healey have built and published a team website for us. The site has links to our pictures, schedule, spirit wear store as well as other useful information... not to mention it’s a great way to show our program to the outside world. The site can be found at: www.CTRamsSoftball.com

Team Survey:

The below survey was sent via the league system, but it appears to not have made it to any of the parents. If you could find a couple minutes to complete it over the day few days, it would be appreciated!

To better understand your experience and improve our program, we have put together a short, anonymous survey. This is your opportunity to leave candid comments and suggestions for ways we can make our program better in the years to come.

We strive to build a program that develops players and coaches, love of the game, and fun on the field with friends. Your feedback is vital to our success so we can continue to grow and improve.

To fill out the survey, please follow this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RD7JKND

Winter Workouts

Our team’s Winter Strength and Conditioning classes are scheduled to start Thursday December 5rd. As we explained during our parents meeting, the team will be broken up into 2 groups for the twice weekly classes (Tuesday/Thursday). The groups will stay together for 2 weeks and then be mixed up every two weeks to ensure all of the girls are together at one point or another

Where: ReClaim Your Fitness, 242 West Avenue in Darien.

Slot A (Tuesday/Thursday): 3:45-4:20pm

Other Winter Training Activities

We are in the process of finalizing the Winter schedule for the other activities and will be in touch in the coming weeks. Stay tuned…

Blast Motion Hitting Sensors

Hopefully everyone has managed to get their Blast accounts setup and sensors working. If you have questions, or need assistance, please let me know. Rita will be reviewing their progress throughout the Winter. Make sure you use the advice on drills provided through the app, which will help target areas the software has targeted for improvement needs through your daughter’s hitting. Again, any questions, please reach out.

Team Fees

As a reminder, the balance of the CT Rams season fee will be due by December 1, 2019.

Checks can be made out to New Canaan Travel Softball and mailed to our Travel Treasurer Rob Panagrossi at:
37 Lincoln Drive
New Canaan, CT 06840
or via Venmo: @Robert-Panagrossi

Lastly, we are looking for additional team sponsors, please let us know if you have someone in mind and we will send along a sponsor form to fill out.

We will be in touch in the coming weeks regarding fundraising planning efforts underway.

Reach out with any questions etc.

Best,

Nick & The CT Rams Coaches

Parent Meeting Recap
by posted 11/07/2019

Parents – Great meeting the other night! We felt it was very productive... and hopefully it helped all of you understand the goals of our team, challenges and expectations, both from the players and the parents.

A few key points from the meeting that the coaches wanted to pass along:

Philosophy and behavior:

  • Spring / Summer is Softball first, other sports come afterwards.
  • The girls are expected to self-advocate, not have the parents do it for them.
    • Parents approaching the coaches about playing time is not appropriate at this level.
  • Playing time is based on many factors, any concerns from the players should be addressed directly from player to coach at the right time (ie. not during a game).
  • Please sign and send back the updated Player / Parent contract no later then Sunday November 10th.
    • Contract can be accessed / downloaded here for those of you who were unable to attend Monday evening’s meeting.
  • We need your help! We need each of you to help reinforce the CT Rams philosophy at home with your daughter, help her understand that being part of a tournament team and a highly competitive sports program is a process, and we need to trust in our coaches and the process.

Fundraising:

As we explained on Monday evening, we are doing what we can to keep the cost of this program down and have done a great job of it thus far. Part of the reason we’ve been able to keep costs down has been due to our highly successful fundraising efforts which have helped offset some of the costs as well as providing funding for spirit wear and other things.

We need everyone’s help to continue raising funds to ensure we have what we need over the next 9 months. Help can come from helping us secure additional CT Rams specific sponsors, as well as helping us plan and execute on group fundraising events.

We plan to create a team banner which will display any sponsors we’re able to secure and are open to other ways to bring our sponsors to the forefront. A couple of you mentioned that you may already know of possible sponsors who may be interested, please reach out to me directly to discuss.

This January we are planning another “Guest Bartender” Winter Fundraiser. There has been talk of including a silent auction into that fundraiser, and a couple parents have expressed interest in helping out. We could certainly use the help... please reach out to me to confirm if you’re interested in helping out, either in the planning or donation of items towards the auction.

Work outside of the team:

We expect that each of your girls will be working either on their own, with a parent / friend or with an instructor during the off-season. The competition at this level is solid and will continue to improve as the tournament season gets nearer. Training and development cannot be expected to only take place when your daughter is with the team, it needs to happen in the off time as well. When it does, it shows. It’s very important that if you are choosing to use a professional, that you ensure that instructor is qualified to teach the skills required. If recommendations on instructors or just advice / drills is needed, reach out to either one of the coaches or to myself and we can give advice, or set you up with the right person to talk to.

Blast Softball:

Those of you at the meeting received your daughter’s blast sensor, along with high level information related to how the sensor works, the analytics is provided and why we have decided to integrate them into our program. If you were not at the meeting, please reach out to me before next Wednesday’s team player meeting to pick up your daughter’s Blast. I will be reaching out in the next few days with more details on setting up, using and understanding how Blast works.

Team Bonding:

Our girls spending time together outside of the lines is going to be key towards their success in 2020. Teams perform better when they play for each other and not only themselves… The coaches and I are big believers in this mantra. We need your help to plan, organize and run team bonding events throughout the winter as well as the Spring / Summer season. Please reach out to me if you’d like to help plan something. We have a couple charity events lined up already, and I’d like to see several more activities planned for the team as a whole off the field.

Other Parent Roles:

I’ve asked earlier this fall, but I want to ask again, please let me know what role you would like to help with as a parent of a CT Rams player. Tournaments will always need people helping, there will be needs around the overnight events we will be planning as well as the Connecticut events. Please reach out to me to reiterate what you’re interested in helping with.

Uniforms:

We will be reaching out over the next few weeks to schedule uniform fitting. Extra uniform items will be available for purchase including extra pants, socks etc once we have the uniform finalized.

Winter Training / Schedule:

Strength and Conditioning - We have a busy winter planned for our girls. Twice weekly strength and conditioning classes to be held at Fitness Together in Darien will start in December.

Hitting – We are planning to start hitting focused training with a professional instructor in December. These sessions will be held weekly.

Pitching Gym Space will be available starting in January, running through April.

Catchers will be asked to attend catching clinics on Sunday evenings beginning in January, running through early April.

Team indoor Practices will start towards the end of January.

We’ve been invited by the Seymour Tradition to participate in an indoor Jamboree, details to be provided once available.

Indoor Winter Tournament to be decided on, most likely mid/late March.

We are working on hosting an indoor Jamboree at BVSA in very early April.

Spring/Summer:

Our tournament schedule is still being worked out. We will be traveling to Fastpitch Nation Park quite a bit and are planning other tournaments around the state. Outside of the Connecticut events, we are planning to travel to Rhode Island as well as Maryland in July for the USSSA East National Championship Tournament.

As the tournaments get closer, we can arrange carpooling where needed as well as coverage for those who can’t be on-site for the entire event.

As a reminder, our girls are not going to be playing rec ball, as such, CT Rams will be the priority and focus throughout the Spring and Summer.

Social Media and Internet Exposure:

Please be sure to follow our Instragram: @CTRamsSoftball and Facebook: @CTRamsSoftball as well as checking out our new homepage (thanks to the Healeys): www.CTRamsSoftball.com (please note, the site is not officially launched yet as there are a couple bugs we are working out, but it is live and running). Please Share our Instagram and Facebook site with your contacts to help our CT Rams program gain more exposure.

Balance of Team Fees:

As a reminder, the balance of the CT Rams season fee will be due by December 1, 2019. If you are interested in spreading the payments out, that is not a problem, please reach out to me directly to discuss options.

Checks can be made out to New Canaan Travel Softball and mailed to our Travel Treasurer Rob Panagrossi at:
37 Lincoln Drive
New Canaan, CT 06840

or via Venmo: @Robert-Panagrossi

This was a ton of information... it still shocks me at exactly what is involved in a team like this. More to come.. but this is certainly more than enough for now!

We are all very much looking forward to the season, looking forward to watching our girls and team grow together and having a ton of fun along the way!

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.

Best,

Nick & CT Rams Coaches

P.S. Don’t forget about the player meeting next Wednesday night at Fitness Together!

GAME UPDATE - PRACTICE
by posted 10/23/2019

Hi all - Unfortunately the fields did not handle the water from last nights rain very well, as such we are moving tonight's game to next Wednesday.

We are working on practice space for this evening, so please make sure your girls know we are doing something regardless. I will come back to you once I have more details.

I was at this fields this morning trying to get the town to work magic, but there is just too much water around the bases. The town has hired a professional company to work on the fields once our Fall season is over.. this should allow for better drainage among other things.

Too bad, as it's absolutely beautiful out..

Lastly - While there will be uniforms, bat bags etc coming later this winter.. we are going to order CT Rams Sweatshirts for the team this week, and have them in-time for our final Fall Tournament. There will be no cost to the sweatshirts as we will be using some of the money raised from the last Travel Softball Fundraiser to cover the costs.

Please send your daughters sweatshirt size to CTRamsSoftball@gmail.com by Tuesday (10/22) evening.

If you're looking for any additional sweatshirts, or T-Shirts... also let me know.

Also - in the coming weeks we will be sharing a team spirit wear store which will allow you to order all sorts of great items.. and a portion of the sales will help our fundrasising efforts.

Our next major fundraiser is planned for January 11th, so make sure to save the date as we will need all parents, friends and family to show their support for your daughter(s) and the program. Details to be shared in the coming weeks.

Update: Final 2 Weeks of the Fall Season
by posted 10/21/2019

Parents – After 2 close games Saturday, followed by a blow-out loss... It was great to see our girls step up and play so well on Sunday. After mowing through the Long Island team, they fought hard against a very good team, the same team which easily beat us the afternoon before but came up short. We fully expect to be competing with teams such as Valley Fusion in 2020 and will see the fruits of their labor once we get there, sucess will not come easy.

We wanted to send an update to layout the plans for the next couple of weeks, leading up to the end of our Fall season and heading into Winter workouts. Winter details will be shared in the next couple of weeks.

Here is what we have coming up over the next 2 weeks:``

Wednesday 10/21 – Game in-place of practice vs. CT Fury 12U (Fairfield’s Elite team), game start is 6:30, please have the girls arrive to Orchard by 5:30

Sunday 10/27 – We are planning (2) games, back to back. Game 1 is against Seymour Tradition (they should be a very good team), and game 2 is against Greenwich. Please arrive to Water Tower by 8:30am on Sunday, games are 9:30 & 11:30.

Monday 10/28 – Practice @ Mead 6:30-8:30

Wednesday 10/30 – Practice @ Orchard 6:30-9

Friday 11/1Possible pre-tournament quick practice after school, this is TBD

Saturday 11/2 – USSSA Fall Finale Tournament: Pool Play – FPN Park, Windsor CT

Sunday 11/3 – USSSA Fall Finale Tournament: Championship Play – FPN Park, Windsor CT

Both of the next 2 teams we are playing (CT Fury & Seymour Tradition) will be at the Fall Finale event. The next week or so will be a good tune up in preparation. This will be a tough event, great competition... so please keep in mind, we are building something here.. it will not come quick, and it will not come easy.

I believe a few of us are planning to stay up in Windsor for the weekend of the tournament. Once we confirm the accommodations, I will share with everyone in case you’re also considering staying.

Reach out with any questions.

Best,

Nick & CT Rams Coaches

Hi all - Our girls ended up 9th seed.. mainly bc of their performances in games 1 and 2.
As I've said a few times, this is Fall.. and the season is a journey. We are looking to compete at a high level, success won't come easy.. it will take work, a lot of work.. focus and dedication.

We girls are going to have a fun, productive and successful season.. wins and losses are important to all of us, of course but.. what is most important is each of them becoming better softball players and great teammates.

Our first game is at 830, field 2.. please arrive by 730.

Weekend Update - Action Needed
by posted 10/08/2019

Parents - As you have hopefully seen (if you haven't, you've been ignoring my emails!) we have a few games this weekend, Columbus Day weekend. Please RSVP using the various methods which I've explained (at length) so we can ensure we have enough girls to play the games we've scheduled.

Being fall, we understand if other sports (fall sports) get in the way, but regardless, we need to know as we are also trying to plan / play out a fall schedule.

Also as a reminder, Sunday is our Fall Guest Bartender Event at South End Restuarant in New Canaan from 1-4pm. The league would appreciate you and your friends stopping by if possible.

Game/Scrimmage Sunday - RSVP NEEDED
by posted 10/01/2019

Parents - As you may have seen, we've scheduled a game / scrimmage for this Sunday (10/6) at 3pm on Orchard. We were going to do a double-header, but instead are going to do an extended game scrimmage (8-10 innings) and be done by 6pm. Rita would like the girls to arrive by 2pm for warm-ups and pre-game practice.

The team we are playing is another multi-town team.. so they should be decent competition for us.

Please RSVP to the event on our site (under schedule), via the automated system emails or using the SportsSignUpPlay app so we can ensure we have enough. On that note, please RSVP to everything that comes through as it will help the coaches plan practices, games etc.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Parents – I hope all is well. It appears the girls had a great time at last Friday’s scavenger hunt and pizza dinner. As you may have saw, Leah Kittredge sent out a sign-up genius for this Friday’s team building (YWL Scarecrow decorating) and parent social.

A few housekeeping items that my over-communicative-self wanted to touch upon:

Schedule for the next 2 weeks:

Wednesday (10/2): Practice as usual on Orchard. Wear red jersey, some sort of black pants (for all practices)
Friday (10/4): Practice from 4-6pm @ Water Tower. Followed by Team building & Parent Social.
Saturday (10/5): Practice from 2-4pm @ Water Tower
Monday (10/7): Practice from 6:30-8:30pm on Mellick Field at Mead Park. This will be our new additional practice time, replacing the Thursday practices. NC Baseball was kind enough to allow us to use their new fancy turf fields as they have lights. The only caveat is that if there are any rainouts for fall baseball, they may need to move us around. Lights are scheduled to be installed on Water Tower field once our fall season wraps up. These lights will tremendously help us in the Spring / Summer and beyond in terms of scheduling conflicts.
Wednesday (10/9): Practice as usual on Orchard
Saturday (10/12): The start of a busy weekend.. Double-header 2pm/4pm on Water Tower vs. Connecticut Fury
Sunday (10/13): Game 10am on Water Tower vs. Newtown Hawks followed by our Travel Guest / Coach bartender Social/Fundraiser at South End.

We are always looking for sponsors to help offset costs for the season. Being a tournament team, we will have mounting expenses throughout the season and as I’ve pointed out in previous emails, the player fee will not entirely cover what we need. If you have any company or person in mind who might be interested in sponsoring our team, please let me know. Currently I have one sponsor lined up, but we need to add to that list.

Lastly, our Blast Motion sensors should be in this week. Once I get things setup and rolling, I will send out a detailed email as to what they are all about and what we need for you (the parents) to do.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.

Best,

Nick & CT Rams Coaches

CT Rams - Game UPDATE + Other Info
by posted 09/20/2019

Parents – We are looking forward to tomorrow’s first fall game. While watching, please keep in mind that fall softball is all about development, not only winning!

Please arrive to the field no later than 10:30am tomorrow to Newtown High School which is located at 12 Berkshire Rd, Sandy Hook, CT 06482

Please ensure the girls come wearing all black softball pants.  Our jerseys are scheduled to be available today, and as such will be provided at the game. Since the team was formed later in the summer, many things had to happen quickly (including jersey orders etc).

We won’t have matching socks distributed... but I am thinking / hoping most of us should have some sort of a red softball sock to wear. If you do not have any, please let me know.

Team Manager: I’ve set each of you up with Dicks Team Manager access. This software contains GameChanger (to watch games live) as well as team management features that we will be using going forward. You should be receiving a link in your email box. Please confirm the account, update your information with your cell phone number etc as we plan to use this to communicate with the team for game day changes, updates, rainouts etc.

Lastly a few non-playing save the date reminders:

Friday – 9/27 Team Bonding (town scavenger hunt followed by pizza. Amy Werner and Sue DelCarmine will be reaching out).

Friday 10/4 – Team Bonding / Scarecrow decorating and parents social @ the Kittredges (details coming soon)

Sunday 10/13 – Travel Softball Fundraiser à Coach and helper guest bartenders at South End, come support our team and our program (proceeds will help offset other expenses throughout the year, Details coming soon)

I’m sure I am missing some other things… but this is it for now!  😊

Email me with any questions.

CT Rams UPDATE Sept 15, 2019 - IMPORTANT
by posted 09/15/2019

Hi Parents – I am overdue with a very detailed (and long) email regarding our plans for the season. I apologize for the email length.. but there are clearly many important details needed to be covered.

  • Practice Update
    • We are working to swap some things around and move our Thursday evening practices from Water Tower to Orchard Field. Until the lights are installed at Water Tower, we are very limited and are sharing fields with the town Rec teams as well as the 5 other travel teams. I should be able to confirm the change early this week.

  • Team Bonding
    • We are planning 2 team “bonding events” over the next few weeks:
      • Town scavenger hunt followed by a team pizza dinner
        • Save the date: Friday September 27th
        • Estimated time: 4:30pm – 7pm
        • We are looking for help with this event… please consider volunteering. Reach out to me ASAP if you’re interested in helping out.
      • Scarecrow decorating
        • My 12U team did this last year and they had a great time creating a softball themed scarecrow to be hung on light poles in downtown New Canaan.
        • Save the date: Friday October 4th
        • Estimate time: Evening (TBD)
        • The Kittredges have been kind enough to host this event and are also planning to have a parent social the same evening. Details to follow.
  • Skills
    • Players need to be working on skills outside of practices. They can do this on their own/with a parent. For an additional cost they can attend private, semi-private, or small group instruction with our in-house instructors, Rita, Kara, or with other local facilities/instructors (I have a list if needed). Practices will never be as efficient at improving player skills as individual/small group sessions. These are a must for travel players.
    • We’ve been building a video collection of great instructional videos. I highly recommend taking a look at these with your daughter and trying some of the suggestions and drills: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZcEsfQ9vxBYmEeINmiKKYg?view_as=subscriber

  • Parent Volunteers Needed
    • Team Building (need volunteer: organize and communicate team gatherings off the field, ie; ice cream after a game, pizza night, bowling, sleepover etc. Team bonding is an essential element to a productive and successful team, please consider lending a hand in this important area) – Need volunteer(s)
    • Tournament Logistics & Planning (sit down / communicate with me (Nick) to work out the details of tournaments in terms of lodging, trip planning, what the team needs, who is bringing what etc – This role is filled
    • Sign-up Genius (work with Nick & others to organize a list of needs for tournaments, double-headers etc, have parents sign up to bring supplies). - Need volunteer
    • Game Changer app - This role is filled
    • Scheduling - This role is filled

  • Uniforms & Gear
    • We expect our fall jerseys to come in this week, before Saturday’s game in Newtown. Please ensure to pick up a pair of all black softball pants. Socks can be all black, or nearly all black ideally. Fall is relaxed, as such we will not be sticklers for this right now.
    • Our full Spring/Summer uniforms will be ordered during late fall. More details around what is included in the final 2019-20 team fee later in this email.

  • Training & Development
    • Fall will be focused on team and player development. Keep in mind, the scoreboard is not the only way to measure success during this time of year.
    • The team will have access to winter training including pitcher/catcher clinics, winter team practices, as well as speed/conditioning classes. More details around what is included in the final 2019-20 team fee later in this email.

  • Player Fee Package and obligation / team fee for 2019-20 Season
    • $2,300 (minus the paid deposit)
    • Includes:
      • Professional Head Coach and Assistant Coach
      • Fall Season
        • 2 weekly practices (outdoors)
        • 2 Tournaments @ Fast Pitch Nation Park (FPN Park)
        • 5-8 Local (Fairfield county mostly) games
        • Game/Practice Jersey
      • Winter
        • Strength & Conditioning classes held at Fitness Together in Darien
          • This is still being finalized, but it’s looking like twice weekly classes which will start in early December and continue through March
        • Pitching Clinics held at the NCHS Field House / Aux Gym running from early Jan through March
        • Catching Clinics held at the NCHS Field House / Aux Gym running from early Jan through March
        • Team practices held at the NCHS Field House / Aux Gym running from mid-Jan through April
      • Spring / Summer
        • 8-10 Tournaments (TBD)
          • The CT Rams are a tournament team, as such, our focus will be preparing to and playing in many tournaments
          • Many will be at FPN Park, some will be a further distance away. FPN Park is drivable, although for some it may be preferable to stay overnight (to be discussed later in the year)
          • We will announce the tournament plans as early as we can to help with planning purposes
        • 3 Practices per week held at either Orchard and Water Tower fields in New Canaan
        • Uniform & Gear
          • Full uniform including
            • Sleeveless jersey, short sleeve compression undershirt, pants, socks, belt, headband
          • Helmet & Facemask
          • Bat/Equipment Bag
        • Blast Motion Sensor & premium subscription service
          • Provides coaches and athletes with direct access to the most accurate swing metrics available to help your players build a better all-around swing
          • Industry’s most accurate motion sensor, combined with an integrated suite of software analysis, coaching, communication and management tools that enable the daily drive to improve and the data needed to target the areas needed to focus on.
  • Fundraising Efforts – IMPORTANT
    • We have a ton of good things planned for the CT Rams this season. As such, the player season fee does not fully cover this team’s expenses. On a player income basis, we are and will operate in the red. In order to close this gap, we will be relying on each and every one of you to help us raise funds to cover the costs.

      • There are many ways to help including:
        • Participating and encouraging friends/family to donate during fundraisers (more on those below)
        • Finding additional sponsors for our team
          • We currently have one
      • Fundraisers
        • Guest Bartender Afternoon
          • Where: South End
          • When: Sunday October 13th, 1pm
          • Come watch football, have a drink or 2 and watch various travel softball coaches and assistants make drinks for everyone
          • This was a hugely successful and very fun event last year
        • Superbowl & March Madness Boxes
          • Support our team by getting as many friends as possible to buy a box (or a few)

The balance of the CT Rams season fee will be due by December 1, 2019.

We will also be sending over a player-parent agreement which will need to be signed and returned to me within 7 days of receiving the agreement. Including in this agreement are expectations of the player for each season as well as what we expect out of our parents including sideline etiquette and responsibilities.

Again, we are very much looking forward to the upcoming seasons and watching our girls develop as Softball players, athletes and people.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.

All the Best,

Nick DiMuzio along with the CT Rams Coaches Rita and Kara

Fall Season - Details
by posted 09/02/2019

Hello CT Rams Parents! My name is Nick DiMuzio (I am aware most of you know my very well by now, but I figured I should be formal), I am assisting Rita and Kara in managing the CT Rams from a logistical and planning standpoint. I will be sending notifications, helping coordinate things and helping answer off the field questions for the team. My goal is to allow Rita and Kara to focus on the girls, the team, player development and putting a successful team on the field.

Practices:

We plan to hold at least 2 practices per week (sometimes 3 if there are no games scheduled). Field space will be an issue in fall for various reasons, so as of now our locked in practice time will be Wednesday evenings from 6:15pm – 8:15pm. This week we also have the field from 6pm – 7:30pm on Tuesday (tomorrow, 9/3). We are working on securing an additional night and then will add in other extra practices as the coaches see fit.

Games:

We will have games scheduled (many will be double-headers) throughout the Fall season, although early on the focus will be practice. Stay tuned for games to be added to the schedule.

Scheduling & Conflicts

We do realize (and encourage) the girls to play other sports during the fall season, and as such we understand there will be conflicts. If you could each send me your daughter’s sports schedule for her other team(s) during the fall, that would be greatly appreciated.

We are planning 2 tournaments this fall:

October 19-20 – USSSA Spooktacular @ Fast Pitch Nation Park (FPN Park) in Windsor, CT
November 2-3 – USSSA Fall Finale @ Fast Pitch Nation Park (FPN Park) in Windsor, CT

Although while not mandatory during the fall season, we are hoping that your daughter is able to break away and attend these events. If she can’t, it’s okay… but please let us know ASAP by replying to this email.

Schedule Management and Game Scoring Apps:

I highly suggest you download and use the ‘Sports Signup Play App’. This app is directly connected to our live schedule, and RSVP system. To use the app, login using your New Canaan Softball login details (you may need to log in and out and back in to get the new team to show up):

Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sportssignup-play/id1048786895
Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siplay.android_siplay&hl=en_US

While the Sports Signup Play App is what we are recommending for now, we are also testing the team management capabilities of another app called “Team Manager”. ‘Team Manager’ is the soon to be replacement for ‘GameChanger’. I plan on working with our team scorers to test the ‘GameChanger’ replacement, as such you should expect to receive an invite to that app once I finish setting the team up. You can download ‘Team Manager’ here:

Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/dicks-team-manager/id1308415878
Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gc.teammanager&hl=en_US

Uniforms (and practice attire)

We will be ordering basic jerseys to be used for both practices and games during the fall. Please send me your daughters shirt/jersey size no later then Thursday September 5th (youth S-L, ladies S-L). We need the girls to wear plain black softball pants for the fall season.. if you do not have them, please pick a pair up this week.

We will be ordering full uniforms for the Spring/Summer this winter and will be in touch later in the fall to get the ball rolling on those.

For practices until the fall jerseys are in, please wear any athletic fitting top along with softball pants.

As we move into the fall, we will be reaching out looking for parent volunteers for a variety of roles for the CT Rams.

There will be additional information coming your way in the near future, for now I wanted to get the above to you before we start practices.

Just to recap action items:

  • Send Shirt / Jersey Sizing
  • Ensure you have black softball pants, or pick a pair up ASAP
  • Practice this week Tuesday / Wednesday
  • Send other sport(s) fall schedule
  • (2) Tournament dates, check other sports schedule, let me know if you can attend

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
